Event Sustainability

Your Event Is Sustainable — But Do Your Attendees Know It?

You've sorted the recycling bins. You've briefed your vendors on compostable serviceware. You've put together a transportation plan for your performers, sourced locally produced food, and set up water refill stations across the site. So why does it still feel like your sustainability efforts aren't landing with attendees?

Sustainable Event Planning by Design: Why Green Can't Be an Afterthought

EventMapStudio revolutionizes sustainability by integrating eco-friendly practices into the planning phase rather than relying on post-construction evaluations. This approach mirrors Deming 's industrial philosophy that quality must be built into processes, not merely inspected afterward. By embedding sustainability from the beginning, event planners gain flexibility to make meaningful changes, optimize resources, and create holistically sustainable events. This proactive methodology makes sustainability a foundational element rather than an afterthought, delivering superior environmental outcomes and meeting growing demands for responsible event experiences.

How the event layout software you use can influence your sustainability decisions.

We sometimes get pushback concerning our point that building sustainable options, heuristics, and wizard in our software can influence event producers into building more sustainable events. Until we have enough time and data to publish our own results, this paper makes our point.

How to Plan Event Solid Waste Management / Spatial Analysis

A solid Solid Waste Plan is an important tool towards a sustainable  zero-waste event . A good rule of thumb from SWACO, the Solid Waste Authority of Central Ohio, is to have recycle, waste, and compost bins grouped together and placed  every 30-40 yards. This is not easy to achieve manually. You can use the Spatial Analysis tool in EventMapStudio to efficiently layout your recycle bins.

How to Encourage Use of Public Transit at your Event / The Public Transit Wizard

Understanding the public transit landscape around your event is important for your event greening effort. Knowing where the public transit access points are will help you better layout your event in particular entrances and exits to leverage the mass transportation network.
